Explore the wonders of Wild Edible Weeds Foraging Workshops, situated in the scenic community gardens in Mount Victoria, Wellington.
Embark on a journey into nature, uncovering a world teeming with wild, edible plants. This workshop, centered on abundant, delicious, and nutritious edible weeds and commonly found plants, will leave you enthusiastic about foraging in your own backyard and local neighborhood.
During this immersive, outdoor, multi-sensory learning experience, we will:
- Delve into the basic principles of sustainable and ethical foraging and wild harvesting.
- Learn the botanical names of plants along with their various common names.
- Confidently identify 10-20 wild plants, including details about lookalikes and toxic plants to avoid.
- Explore the nutritional and medicinal properties of each plant, discovering how to prepare simple healing remedies at home.
- Understand how to prepare each plant for maximum nutrition and flavor, discussing easy recipes and cooking tips.
- Uncover the folklore and history of each plant, hearing fascinating and often amusing stories that help us connect with the plants and our ancestors.
Leave the workshop feeling empowered with the skills and knowledge needed to deepen your connection to food, bolster local food resilience, and enhance security throughout the natural cycles of the seasons. Say goodbye to the supermarket; instead, gather your own wild greens on the way home for a delightful dinner.
Commence the session with a cup of herbal tea and conclude it by savoring a wildly delicious snack crafted with seasonally available wild ingredients. This culinary adventure varies with the seasons, featuring delights such as a wild salad, weedy pesto, pickled greens, or herb-infused butter.

I really enjoyed the foraging workshop. Thanks Felicity for the very educational experience.
I cannot help but look for the edible plants everywhere I go.
Thanks heaps Felicity for sharing your knowledge of plants that I feel so much more confident picking. Such delicious food as well. Amazing.
I was lucky to have received the wisdom about the abundance and nutritious kai that is around us in our backyards, disguised as weeds, from Felicity. She's so much to offer and this workshop opened me to so many gems that I can nourish myself with. I am very grateful and I wish this knowledge reaches more people.
Thankyou Felicity, the workshops were great. I learnt a lot and tasted “weeds” I never thought to eat. Fantastic to learn we have these helpful plants all around us

Foraging workshop
Amazing! Throughly enjoyed it and learnt a lot that I am now using :)
Foraging fun
Relaxed, fun, informative session, what a pity I've been throwing away so many tasty nutritious 'weeds' that we could've been eating! Looking forward to saving some money and finding our own free food! Thank you!
Enjoyable and informative
Nice way to spend a few hours. Went straight home and picked some weeds from the garden to share with my family! Felicity is very knowledgeable and explained things well. Has given me confidence to forage myself Thanks!
Fascinating workshop
Really enjoyed this workshop which I attended with my son. Felicity was very friendly and organised, taking us through some common plants that were very edible. I knew about some already but learnt a lot more about them. Felicity had prepared a couple of teas, salads, butters, a pickle and a spread. It was great fun to try these, some of which were really delicious. I am new to foraging, but think that people who already have some knowledge would also enjoy it.
Loved it, thank you!
What a fabulous foraging workshop, i found it informative and gained good knowledge to get out in nature to confidently add lovely wild ingredients to my meals. Very inspiring, thank you!
